I'm a LR user and am semi-solid technically (PhD mechanical engineering). Do you have any suggestions for lenses or other equipment that would allow me to create photos (portraits, close-ups of symphony, miscellaneous) of that style? The original is a wonderful image, and the steps up to 4 and 5 are all (to me) reasonable manipulations to the original. Once you add the rays (again, imho), they were simply not there in the original image. As I learn more about the history of photography, I see this debate re manipulations, adding to the image, and "art" have been going on nearly from the start and will no doubt continue. I guess my personal line (subject to change!) is I'll manipulate anything that is there originally, but am reluctant to add to the image things that were not there when I took the photo. In any case, wonderful image and thanks for sharing how you created it.BHWhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15148733882966022925noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1266490130940147171.post-55845751643367391872017-05-06T10:41:51.848-07:002017-05-06T10:41:51.848-07:00Yes, I do. I have been searching for the camerafusion device, but the website does not seem to be in operation any longer, and I could find no items for sale. Do you know what happened to them, or is there anything else that would work as an adapter for old lenses? I would agree with...If I might add my two cents...

I would agree with Ian with regard to whether or not manipulation is appropriate. In this case I like both the original and the final. But, for me, an intermediate step between 4 and 5 would have been where I would have stopped. It would still give the original its showcase, but adds something else that might leave the viewer to continue looking into this world. Also, a bit of technical critique if I may; The sliver of the last step at the bottom of the original is a little distracting when the image is offset on the larger canvas. It sort of reveals the original space and takes away from the rays that were added in the last steps. You mentioned it and softened it with vignetting in step 3, but it seems to have crept in again in the subsequent images and especially the final image. Perhaps just removing that last sliver of step all together? Very awesome work though! Keep it coming.Eric Lanehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01369165488555310380noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1266490130940147171.post-18883685179982203762011-12-19T14:04:30.819-08:002011-12-19T14:04:30.819-08:00I think that removing the light source adds a sens...I think that removing the light source adds a sense of mystery, which I like - where do the steps lead? I had no idea that it was inside a building before, so the window gives it a whole new context. However you crop this one though, I don't think you'll have a bad image, just different. :)Ian Goodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10954644215852052442noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1266490130940147171.post-67036003217426208562011-12-18T11:12:12.404-08:002011-12-18T11:12:12.404-08:00Thanks, Ian. It's your your vision, your art, your decision. :) With a journalistic image, accurately reporting an event, then manipulation which altered the reality would not be appropriate IMO, but I believe it is here. I saw the finished version of this a while ago on Google+ and loved it. Having seen the original, I like that too. It's interesting to see your thought process when editing, so thanks for sharing. FWIW I prefer the edited version.Ian Goodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10954644215852052442noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1266490130940147171.post-57748267773356667232011-11-27T15:00:02.293-08:002011-11-27T15:00:02.293-08:00Thanks, David. The only alternatives are 1) sliding backs from eBay that do only horizontal movement and are the lowest cost (and not always available); and 2) the BetterLight, which is wonderful and expensive. Betterlight's software and support appear to be first-rate.

CameraFusion offers several advantages, besides cost: I can make an exposure more quickly, about 2 minutes, once I'm set up and focused; I am only constrained by my Nikon battery life in the field. The principal disadvantage is that I have the additional post-processing step of stitching in Autopano Giga. CameraFusion + Nikon is lighter and less bulky.

Hope this helps.Bruce Hemingwayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02908139476096404710noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1266490130940147171.post-3928008279075917952011-11-27T13:57:56.625-08:002011-11-27T13:57:56.625-08:00Bruce, for some time now I've suffered from ph...Bruce, for some time now I've suffered from photographer's block. I'd largely stopped taking photos and turned to exploring soft, ethereal post-process interpretations. Seeking some inspiration to click a shutter again, I began thinking of dragging out my venerable 4x5 (a Horseman 450 monorail studio beast with a Schneider Symmar-S 5.6/210. I recently asked a colleague about 4x5 digital backs, and following his advice I took a look at Better Light. I decided that was a bit beyond my price range and began a broader search - and stumbled across your site.

Funny, that. I've wandered aimlessly for near a year and when I go looking I find you, published in the last weeks. Your post on Pictorialism sets my heart and mind racing, and your note of the CameraFusion kit seems just the ticket for something novel to do with my Nikon D-300. Serendipitous, I suppose, though I am mighty tempted to consider(/hope) it fate :) In any case, I thought I'd introduce myself and offer my compliments and thanks for your blog. I'm off to look further at the artists you mentioned. Stunning "Descending", btw.

I wonder if you might share further findings and opinions in regard to the CameraFusion? I'm struggling to resist buying one immediately :)

best regards,
Dave CheneyDavid Cheneyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05504619029265343255noreply@blogger.com
